The Hest Bank Inn sits just outside Lancaster with a large beer garden facing due west (270°) — directly across Morecambe Bay. This is the quintessential sunset pub. Mornings are shaded, but from mid-afternoon the sun starts flooding across the bay and by evening you're watching it drop behind the Lake District fells with a pint in hand. The 160° open angle means the garden catches light from virtually every afternoon direction.
The Hest Bank Inn has a west-facing beer garden (270°), which means it typically catches the best sun early afternoon into the evening. The large outdoor space is sheltered, making it a reasonable option even on breezier days.

Factual context for The Hest Bank Inn — heritage, what's on site, and how the sun reaches the garden. Sourced from public records; no subjective claims.
The Hest Bank Inn dates to the 16th century and historically served as a coaching inn for travellers crossing the sands of Morecambe Bay to Grange-over-Sands. By 1812, at the height of the coaching trade, a lantern room had been built to guide travellers across the sands and the inn's stables had been extended to hold sixteen horses, four drivers and a rescue team for the bay crossing. The inn also acted as the meeting place for the Manor Court of Slyne-with-Hest. The Furness Railway opened in 1846, ending the coaching trade across the sands but bringing rail-borne visitors instead.
Listed by CAMRA on WhatPub. Real ale and food served, Sunday roast, sports TV, outdoor heaters, fire pit, on-site parking. Dog-friendly, family-friendly, accessible. The garden has both covered and sheltered seating.
The garden bearing of 270° (due west) gives the seating direct sun from mid-afternoon through into the evening. The 160° open angle is one of the widest in the area, so the garden catches sun across most of the western sky as the afternoon progresses.
